Spemann Graduate School of Biology and Medicine

SGBM Entry

The international Spemann Graduate School of Biology and Medicine (SGBM) offers its doctoral candidates a structured, interdisciplinary program in the life sciences that is open to outstanding graduates from around the world. It is possible to work toward a doctoral degree in the natural sciences and in medicine at the same time. The program includes seminars, workshops, practical courses in new technologies, courses on key competencies, language courses, career advising, and participation in national and international meetings. Every doctoral candidate meets regularly with a doctoral committee to discuss his or her progress. The goal is to provide life scientists an education that brings together the knowledge and methods of various disciplines and skills in fundamental research, clinical research, biotechnology, and drug development.

The SGBM was successful with its proposal in the first round of the Excellence Initiative (2006–2012) as well as with its renewal proposal (2012–2017) in the second round.

The SGBM will receive DFG bridge funding from December 2017 to December 2018.
